Our Story

The story behind MYSLUNA

I kept pulling the blanket over my eyes.

I liked the darkness and the feeling of being tucked in. I made the Weighted Sleep Hood to keep that comfort without rearranging the blanket every time I turned over.

I could put my phone down, turn off the light and give myself plenty of time to sleep. Then I would lie there thinking about the next day. Some nights I fell asleep and woke again with the same thoughts waiting for me.

After enough nights like that, bedtime began to feel like another thing I had to get right. I tried changing my routine. Some parts helped. I was still awake more often than I wanted to be.

The things I tried first

I still use some of these. None gave me the feeling I kept reaching for at night.

No scrolling before bed
Putting my phone away gave me a cleaner break from the day. It did not always quiet the thoughts that showed up once the room was dark.
Meditation and breathing
Having something to focus on helped at times. On other nights, I spent the whole exercise thinking about how awake I felt.
Supplements
I hoped there might be a simple thing I was missing. I did not find one that addressed the part I struggled with most: settling down once I lay in bed.

The habit I kept coming back to

I noticed that I kept pulling the blanket up over my forehead and eyes. I left my nose and mouth clear and tucked a corner beside my cheek. The room felt less distracting. The soft fabric and a little weight made me feel more settled.

Then I would turn over and lose the bit covering my eyes. On warm nights I pushed the blanket away, only to pull it back later. It was awkward, but I kept doing it.

I wanted the tucked-in feeling around my eyes and forehead without having to sleep under extra bedding.

From the blanket to the hood

I started reading about weighted blankets and sleep masks. Some people liked gentle weight. Others found it too warm or too much. I paid attention to that, because I already kicked the duvet away on some nights.

Ordinary eye masks covered less of the head than I wanted, and the narrow strap was a different feeling from the blanket tucked around me. I wanted broader, softer coverage with weight over the front. I wanted to be able to turn onto my side without rebuilding that little shelter around my face.

That was the starting point for the MYSLUNA Weighted Sleep Hood.

The product I made

A sleep mask that goes beyond the eyes

I designed the hood around the soft coverage I had been trying to make with the blanket. It reaches from the crown toward the cheeks, with gentle weight across the front. It does not rely on a thin elastic strap.

I made it for comfort and coverage. I do not expect it to switch off every thought, and I would not tell anyone to treat it as a cure for poor sleep.

What I would want you to know

I like the fuller coverage and the gentle weight. I also know why someone might prefer a smaller eye mask.

  • It is more substantial. If you want the lightest thing to pack or wear, a small mask may suit you better.
  • More coverage can feel warm. The tucked-in feeling may be too much on a warm night.
  • Fit is personal. Head shape, sleeping position and how much pressure you enjoy all affect comfort.

I still put my phone away and give myself time to wind down. Making the hood did not replace those habits. I made it to bring together the darkness, softness and weight I kept trying to arrange with the blanket.
